"Ben’s Chili Bowl has seen it all in Washington, D.C. The 1950s when the area around it was known as "Black Broadway." The 1968 riots following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King when businesses nearby were torched or forced to close. The drugs and crime which followed-driving many customers away. Today, after 50 years in business, Ben’s sits in the middle of a neighborhood revival. In a town often marked by separation of the races, Ben’s is a gathering place for all colors and economic backgrounds.
